| Dear JW Player Customer, HTML5 is here. And so is JW Player 5.3. Rather than force users to choose between Flash and HTML5, our approach has been to integrate both seamlessly into a single player. Read about it and more: JW Player 5.3 — Embed Once, Play Anywhere JW Player 5.3 is a significant leap forward in the evolution of the JW Player. Instead of developing a separate HTML5 player, we've implemented HTML5 playback side-by-side with Flash playback. Read about the thinking behind JW5.3; feature highlights include: - Embed Auto-Detection — Use the JW Embedder to tell the player whether you prefer Flash or HTML5; it will auto-detect what the user's browser/device supports and choose the best playback mode.
- Consistent Skinning Model — Create an XML/PNG skin and use it in both Flash and HTML5 modes for consistent styling across browsers/devices.
- Unified JavaScript API — Integrate the player into your site with the new JavaScript API to provide a single cross-platform experience
HTML5 Support for Streaming We are firm proponents of HTML5, and have begun investing heavily in it. Not only are we building support into the JW Player, but we have been working actively with other organizations and industry bodies to help push the specification forward. One item at the top of everyone's list is HTML5's support for streaming. You can read about our recent participation in the Foundations of Open Media Software (FOMS) Workshop at the Open Video Conference, which focused on the subject. From Our Blog: Understanding Video Analytics One of the main purposes of our blog is to help our readers understand the ins-and-outs of video publishing. This recent post entitled "Understanding Video Analytics" discusses the basic metrics one should look at when evaluating the effectiveness of his/her content. It is worth reading if you are new to video and trying to draw insights about your users' activity. We hope you enjoy, and if you have requests for future blog post subjects, contact us. Thanks again for your continued support. Sincerely, The JW Player Team | | | |
